No points on the best weekend of the season might sound like nonsense, but it is indeed a good picture of the 2019 edition of the #DutchGP for Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2.
Sam Lowes has been quick in almost every free practice session, before qualifying in fifth place; today at times he showed he might have had the best pace of all the Moto2 field. Racing, however, is full of surprises, and a coming together with Jorge Martin at turn nine took all the hopes away for the Faenza-based team, who until then was playing a strong role in the race.
The collision between Lowes and the former Gresini Racing Moto3 rider might have been near the limit – and this is way it was initially under investigation – with Lowes having the worst luck of the two in the crash – a bruised leg, which will not prevent him for getting back on track in less than five days at Sachsenring.
DNF SAM LOWES #22
“This weekend we worked extremely well. We had the pace to stay with the leaders and yes – it’s easy to say now – but we could have battled for the podium or even better. Unfortunately a coming together with an opponent took me out of the race: this is racing, but such an overtake so early in the race wasn’t necessary – but again, these things happen. This morning we tried something at the front that we didn’t like, but during the race the bike was perfect. We were also probably the best Kalex team on track as I had the speed to fend off the attacks. This is very good for the next race.”
